Bianca Buchignani is a Child Neurologist and Psychiatrist. She is currently a PhD student in Clinical and Translational Sciences, Neuroscience curricula, at the University of Pisa. Her research activity focuses on child and adolescent neuromuscular hereditary disorders.
Her PhD project, which she is carrying out at IRCCS Fondazione Stella Maris, explores predictors of evolutive trajectories and seeks early biomarkers using cutting edge high-resolution muscle magnetic resonance (MRI).
Due to pharmacological trial readiness, there has been an increasing need to obtain more accurate information regarding the involvement of the central nervous system to identify the early signs of muscle involvement and to understand muscle metabolism. Using both clinical and neuroimaging tools, such as 7Tesla MRI spectroscopy, this project aims to offer new revealing insights in this exciting field.
