Short Bio

The research project of Dr. Cappellani is entitled “The role of autophagy in amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis pathogenesis: a translational study” and it includes:

  • a “basic-science arm” aimed at studying the pathogenesis of destructive amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis; in particular, the involvement of autophagy in the above-mentioned condition is investigated;
  • a “clinical arm” aimed at the in vivo application of the study results; the improvement of the tools for the differential diagnosis between amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis types and new therapeutic strategies for this conditions are pursued.
