Short Bio

Fabio Vistoli MD, PhD in surgery, immunology and transplant biotechnology. Dr. Vistoli  is a gastrointestinal and transplant surgeon with a strong expertise in the surgical treatment of hepato-biliary and pancreatic cancers as well as in pancreas and renal transplantation.  He contributed to the development of the pancreas and kidney transplant programs at the University of Pisa, where currently serves as Associate Professor of Surgery. He contributed to the description of several original surgical techniques in transplantation and pancreatic cancer surgery, conducted numerous prospective clinical trials, and explored new strategies to overcome immunological barriers in pancreas and kidney transplantations. He participated to the first robot assisted transplantations of kidney and pancreas. Dr Vistoli published more than 130 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals (Google Scholar as of June 21 – publications 131, citations 3,815, h-index=35), over 25 book chapters and 1 book. He is member of the Editorial Board of 3 international scientific journals and serves as a reviewer for over 25 international scientific journals. Dr. Vistoli is member of several national and international surgical societies and serves in the council of EPITA (European Pancreas and Islet Transplant Association), he is also deputy chair of the intersociety council of the SIN-SITO (Società Italiana di Nefrologia-Società Italiana per i Trapianti d’Organo).  In the past Dr. Vistoli served in the council of SITO and in the council of the AIRT (Associazione Interregionale Trapianti). Dr. Vistoli, in 2019, organized the first world consensus conference on pancreas transplantation. Dr. Vistoli received several national and international research funding and awards.
