Filomena Cetani

Filomena Cetani obtained her Medical Degree in 1986 and Specialty Degree in Endocrinology in 1989, at the University of Pisa. She obtained her PhD degree in Endocrinology and Metabolism, at the University of Florence in 1996. During her PhD she had education at the Endocrine Unit, Hopital Erasme, Université Libre Bruxelles, Bruxelles) and research activity at the Institut de Recherche Interdisciplinaire, Faculty of Medicine, Service de Génétique Médicale, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Prof. Gilbert Vassart e Prof. Jacques Dumont), 1994-1996. She was visiting professor at the University of Boston, Endocrine-Hypertension Division (Brigham and Women’s Hospital- Harward Medical School, Prof. E.M. Brown), may 1999. From 2000 to present time, she is part of the Medical staff at the University Hospital of Pisa, Endocrine Unit.

Filomena Cetani is the head of the Day Service and the Outpatient clinic for the study and treatment of the Mineral Metabolism and Bone diseases. Her research concerns the pathogenesis of parathyroid diseases with special regard to the molecular pathogenesis of sporadic and familial parathyroid tumors, both benign and malignant, and hypoparathyroidism. Moreover, she carries out clinical and basic research on vitamin D metabolism disease.

She is the principal investigator of a multicenter, randomized, double blind Phase 2 and Phase 3 studies with TransCon PTH in patients with hypoparathyroidism.

She is a member of the European Program of the study of parathyroid diseases (PARAT).

She is an associate Editor of the Journal Of Endocrinological Investigation and member of the editorial team of the journal Endocrine Related Cancer.

She is authors of several Book Chapters, and of more than 150 publications in peer-reviewed International Journals, most of which as first or last author. Filomena Cetani is a member of the of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, the European Society of Endocrinology, the Italian Society of Endocrinology, and the Italian Society of Osteoporosis, Mineral Metabolism and Skeletal Diseases.

She carries out Reviewer activities for the main International Journals in the field of endocrinology and bone metabolism.
