Short Bio

Antonella Lupetti, MD, PhD, was born in 1966, graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Pisa in 1990, Specialized in Microbiology and Virology at the University of Pisa in 1994, and defended her PhD thesis in “Medical and Experimental Microbiology” at the University of Pisa in 2002. She has been Visiting fellow at the University of Leiden, The Netherlands from 1999 to 2003. Since 2005 she is Associate Professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology at the University of Pisa, Italy. She teaches Microbiology and Mycology at the Medical School.

She chairs the Sezione Dipartimentale di Microbiologia Micologica Universitaria, at Pisa University Hospital. She is Director of the Degree Course in Tecnico di Laboratorio Biomedico at the University of Pisa and Director of the first level Master in “La diagnostica di laboratorio decentrata: governance e management del Point of Care Testing” at the University of Pisa.

Her research activity mainly focuses on: (i) genotyping and analysis of virulence factors of Candida species; (ii) evaluation of antibacterial and antifungal drug activity in in vitro and in vivo models; (iii) evaluation of the antifungal activity of cationic peptides on Candida species and on carbapenemase producing Klebsiella pneumoniae clinical isolates. Such research activity is supported by national grants and by private companies.
