Short Bio
Cristian Scatena MD, PhD was born in 1979 in Lucca. He received his Master Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pisa in 2009. After a six months’ period of research at Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum (LUMC) in Leiden (NL) he started his practical training in Pathology at the University of Siena. Lately he received his PhD degree in Clinical and Translational Sciences from the University of Pisa. From 2019 he is Assistant Professor of Pathology at the University of Pisa. In 2020 he achieved the National Scientific qualification as associate professor, and in 2023 as full professor in the Italian higher education system for Pathology. His main research activity is focused on the pathogenetic mechanisms at the basis of solid tumors, in particular breast cancer. Such research activity is supported by international, national and regional grants and by private companies and foundations. He has been involved in many collaborative research projects in Italy, Europe and USA. He serves as Associate Editor and reviewer for several international journals as Frontiers in Oncology, Cancer Cell International and Cancers. He is author of over 70 papers in international indexed journals, and several chapters of book. Thanks to his one-year period at the Biomedical Research Centre of the University of Salford, in Manchester (UK) as Visiting Scientist, from 2021 he chairs the research Laboratory of Cellular Biology and Cytofluorometry of the Division of Pathology of the Department of Translational Research and NTMS.
