Short Bio

Emilia Ghelardi, PhD, is currently Associate Professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology at the University of Pisa, Medical School. She teaches Microbiology and Molecular Microbiology at the University of Pisa. She is Director of the Residency School in Microbiology and Virology and the Master Degree Program in E-learning in Health Sciences and ICT in Medicine, University of Pisa. 

Her interests are mainly focused on probiotics, gut microbiota, physiology and virulence potential of Bacillus species, rapid diagnostic methods in medical microbiology. These scientific activities are demonstrated by more than 100 papers on international peer-reviewed journals and many invited talks at national and international conferences. In 2017, she received the National Scientific Qualification to function as full professor in Italian Universities in the competition sectors “Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology” and “Microbiology”. She received funding from National Research Projects, University Projects, MIT,  private companies, and is part of different international Research Consortia (RELISH, BACELL, SporeBio, Bacillus ACT).

Dr. Ghelardi is Associate Editor of Frontiers in Microbiology, Section Microbial Physiology and Metabolism, Reviewing Editor of Microbiology Spectrum, Section Bacteriology, and serves as a reviewer for over 25 international scientific journals.
