Short Bio
After graduating at the Medical School of the University of Bari, Francesco Latrofa obtained his Postgraduate Degree in Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases at the University of Pisa in 1999. From 2000 to 2003 he held the position of Post-Doc Researcher at the Autoimmune Disease Unit, Cedars-Sinai Research Institute and School of Medicine, University of California, Los Angeles. He then returned to the University of Pisa, at first in the position of Assistant Professor as part of the call “Rientro Cervelli” and, from 2015, as Associate Professor. He is a faculty member of the Post Graduate School of Endocrinology and Metabolism and the School of Preventive and Adapted Physical Activity Sciences.
Francesco Latrofa is affiliated to The Endocrine Society, the European and the Italian Societies of Endocrinology, the American, the European and the Italian Thyroid Associations. He has been included in the Marquis Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare (8th ed), in Science and Engineering (11th ed) and in the World (30th ed).
His main area of research is thyroid autoimmunity, with specific interests in thyroid autoantibodies, association between thyroid autoimmunity and thyroid cancer and correlation between thyroid autoimmunity and iodine intake. More recently he has investigated the endocrinological adverse events of immune therapy in cancer patients and has characterized subacute thyroiditis related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He is authors of chapters of international textbooks and has published several papers in international peer-reviewed journals. He is Associate Editor of Frontiers in Endocrinology, section Oncology, and member of the Editorial Boards of the European Thyroid Journal and the Journal of Endocrinological Investigations.
